As many folks who know me know, I am a solidly conservative gal. I listen to conservative news shows. Yesterday I did not get to listen but I read the transcript of one of my favorites.
I adore Glenn Beck. I think he is intelligent and funny. I know he claims to be a libertarian. I also know we fundamentally disagree on many things.
For example he does not care if the law allows gay marriage. I think government has no place in marriage period. Marriage was created by God between a man and a woman, and if the government wants God out of government then they need to get out of marriage.
So as I blogged before I support Debra Medina for Texas governor. I do this because she is a solidly conservative constitutionalist. She is a Christian wife, mother and hard worker. The other 2 republican candidates are not constitutionalists. That just does not work for me.
So anyway Glenn has Mrs. Medina on his show. I did not get to listen I just read the transcript. I thought it would be trouble by his intro. He went on and on about how his show is not a friend to anyone and they have no friends. How he doesn't give his endorsement to any candidate. (This part is no longer on his transcript site)
Then he has Mrs. Medina on. He asks her about herself, she says what she always says, she is an RN, Wife Mother and business owner. She lists her issues and they discuss for a few seconds her stance on property tax (when you pay property tax you do not own your home the government does you are just renting it from them.)
Then out of left field come this odd question. He says he got emails saying she was a 9/11 truther. Now I have heard that some folks think the government was behind 9/11. However until that moment I have never heard anyone I considered... intelligent or... what is the word... sane.. give them ANY plausibility. Suddenly Glenn Beck is giving credence to people whose only goal is chaos and confusion. He gives them credence because now, any yahoo or google search on his name or Mrs. Medina's will bring them up. That is publicity, bad perhaps. However I worked in Hollywood, I learned they really do believe that any publicity is good publicity. Now the thing that bothered me most was, this has NOTHING to do with Texas and the major issues Texas faces.
Mrs. Medina says this is the first time she has ever been accused of this. It is the first time I have heard this as well. She was understandably flustered. She did say she has seen no evidence to support such claims and she herself does not believe this.
Then Glenn, the libertarian asked her if she would "disavow" anyone on her campaign who did think this way. She replied along the lines of she had no position on that because she is not the thought police. (summary of about a paragraph, I will post the transcript link at the end for those interested.) She also said, and I agree, it it not only our right to question the government but it is our duty to ask questions when we suspect things.(I am not a 9/11 truther but they have the right to think or believe that if they so choose. Just as I have the right not to.) He ended the interview abruptly.
The he begins blathering on about how good looking Perry is and how he could "french kiss" him. I thought he did not endorse politicians? Yet here he is telling people to write off Mrs. Medina because "some one" claims she is for questioning the government... Then goes on to say how Rick Perry is handsome and looks good in a pair of jeans... I dunno if I was not a thinking person I would think that was an endorsement. Write off a solid conservative because you do not like that she will not control what her staffers think and kiss the guy who wants to add on to a historical governor's mansion at taxpayer expense... how very libertarian of you Glenn.
When my son (not eligible to vote, he just moved here) read it he said it sounded like Perry had paid for an ad. I agree.
I mean I have never been a Glenn drone. This just seemed so weird to me though. I know what it came off as to me. he was just a regular pundit like that guy who gets shivers up his leg from Obama.
This is why God labels gossip among the things His people will not do. Now it is all over the news that she is a truther but in fact when asked if she believed that she said. I don't. Then went on too say some good questions have been asked and not answered. She did not say she believed it. But because the powerful pundit says it, it must be true. Talk about catering to the msm that he is so against. Glenn you handed them a feast on a platter by acting like them and spinning what the woman said.
Glenn, you blew it on this one.
